The US National Park Service will turn 100 this year on August 25, 2016. Celebrate by exploring these beautiful parks on our Alaska cruise.
The US National Park Service (NPS) will complete an impressive 100 years in service on August 25, 2016. This centennial milestone is being celebrated around the country with various educational and recreational programmes, enticing citizens and visitors alike to head out into the beautiful wilderness and embrace the natural visual splendour of these parks. There’s even an IMAX 3D film entitled National Parks Adventure, narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Robert Redford, created for this special occasion.
Back in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the act that gave birth to the NPS, and since then this organisation has been devoted to the conservation and preservation of these parks. The mission has been to leave these lush wonders “unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations” as well as offer a green haven for current generations.
Needless to say, there is much excitement about this noteworthy anniversary and arguably no better year than this one to immerse yourself in the magnificence of these parks.
Celebrate the centenary by cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage
Onboard an Alaskan cruise with AE Expeditions, you may come face-to-face with wildlife such as deer or wolves at the Tongass National Forest. You will get a chance to gaze at the picturesque icebergs at Dawes Glaciers in Tracy Arm, as well as spot orca and Steller’s sea lion colonies near the waters of Stephen’s Passage and Frederick Sound. Bird-lovers can be mesmerised by the flight of nesting bald eagles and enjoy spotting nearly 100 bird species around the Misty Fjord National Monument, affectionately called ‘the Yosemite of the North’.
